PRACTICE AT SLOCUM-DICKSON MEDICAL GROUP P.L.L.C.

We are a physician-owned and physician-run multi-specialty group.  Established in 1938, we have over 80 years experience in the health care profession now offer over 110 physicians and mid-level providers in nearly all medical and surgical specialties.  Slocum-Dickson Medical Group’s practice philosophy is a blend of individual member autonomy and group decision making. Each and every doctor maintains his or her own individual medical practice, while benefiting from the economies of scale of a group practice and sharing equally in the success of the group as a whole. Our doctors have the freedom to select nursing and support staff from a pre-screened pool of qualified professionals. Slocum-Dickson doctors can affiliate with either of the two hospitals in the area, each with approximately 250 beds, sophisticated medical equipment, services and expert personnel.

As a member of the group, your participation in running the business will be sought out. Slocum-Dickson firmly believes in the importance of the different perspectives individual members bring to managing the day-to-day operations and future direction of the group.

THE BENEFITS OF GROUP PRACTICE

As a member physician at Slocum-Dickson Medical Group, you will be part of an integrated multi-specialty group practice. Unlike many groups today that are operated by not-for-profit corporations, Slocum-Dickson is owned and managed by its member physicians. Immediate professional and business benefits not readily available to doctors practicing medicine with other groups or privately will be yours as part of the group.

On the professional side, the doctors at Slocum-Dickson Medical Group can rely on direct multi-specialty consultations and assistance from members of the group. Your patients also have the benefit of preferential consultations at the earliest possible time. A unified charting system keeps complete patient records at hand and assures quality care.

On the business side, centralized purchasing keeps supply costs down, while monthly cost reports maximize the control of receivables. Sharing of space, staff and other economies are available to group members. A monthly cost report which lists these elements of your individual contribution to the bottom line is made available to you for planning purposes.

On the personal side, your income for the first two years will be based upon a negotiated salary. After that time, a combination of your individual billing, the group’s collection rate and your individual overhead will be used to compute salary. Contracts with doctors call for semi-monthly income, enabling group members to plan necessary personal expenses. Of course, a formal and equal on-call schedule is in effect with seniority preference only after the age of 60. A well-organized and successful pension plan is available to you. The group provides individual consultation on financial documentation and tax preparation at the end of each year.

Because of continued growth over the years, a new 78,000 square foot state of the art medical facility was opened in 1989.

Slocum-Dickson’s managed care strategy is designed to position the group for success in the health care market place. We have capitation contracts totaling over 16,000 member lives and a developing medical management infrastructure.
