Responsible for varied duties within the X-ray Department and also does related work as required. This individual is responsible for performing radiologic procedures. Work situations are a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, initiative and ingenuity in order to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.  The Rad Tech produces quality radiographs as ordered, selecting proper technical factors according to an individual patient’s needs and operating equipment per policies, procedures, and standards, assuring appropriate protection is provided in accordance with prescribed safety standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for performing X-rays as requested by physician, keeping x-ray department neat and clean, reassures and explains procedures to patients, assists radiologist and/or clinic physicians, administers radiographic medication and barium mixtures, assists in fluoroscopic examinations, does related and general office duties as required.  Radiology technicians must be able to closely follow physician instructions, prepare radiograph equipment, position patients correctly and accurately capture the requested diagnostic images.  Radiologic technologists must also protect the patient’s safety during the X-ray procedure.  Radiologic technologists are potentially exposed to radiation on a daily basis and must take the proper precautions to protect themselves.  Radiologic technologist utilizes RIS/PACS System to enter, retrieve, and maintain data.   Attends OSHA initially at orientation and annually thereafter.

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS: Direct contact with patients and physicians of the group.  Ability to work closely with clinic physicians and radiologists in dealing with routine x-rays and routine and complex fluoroscopic procedures.  Must show considerable empathy towards patients and the ability to establish an effective working relationship with associates, peers, and the medical staff.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: Graduation from high school and graduation from a two year accredited school of x-ray technology with an ARRT certificate.  FA valid New York State license in radiography and four years experience in an in-patient setting, or in lieu thereof, two years experience in an ambulatory health care environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires sitting, standing bending and reaching.  May require lifting up to 20 pounds.  Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax, calculators and telephone.  Requires normal hearing and vision.
