What do you enjoy most about being a physician?

I enjoy being a part of my patients’ journeys to improve their wellbeing. It is certainly gratifying to see patients improve their health.

What personal traits do you have that help you as a healthcare provider?

I believe empathy, patience, and hope have helped me as a physician. Empathy is important to be able to see what patients are going through, even if you may not have had a similar experience; empathy helps the doctor-patient relationship grow by ensuring a patient feels heard. Patience is important because not every patient will be able to meet their health goals right away. It takes time, and change is rarely easy. Hope is important, because our patients often face challenging situations in their lives, making reaching health goals tough, yet not impossible – as physicians, believing in the power of positive change can go far. Sometimes, we are our patients’ first cheerleaders in the process of change aimed at wellness and healing.
