I grew up watching my mother practice medicine as an obstetrician and gynecologist and witnessed firsthand how much she loved taking care of patients and getting to know them and their families. I had the great opportunity in my early career to volunteer in several hospitals and clinics and enjoyed getting to know patients and watching their illnesses get better because of compassionate, thoughtful, and thorough physicians.
I spent a year doing research with a focus on skin cancers and lasers and light therapies in dermatology at the University of Miami before pursuing dermatology as my specialty. I love dermatology because your knowledge of skin disease at a microscopic level as well as your clinical examination skills are combined to make accurate diagnoses to effectively treat patients. Dermatology allows me to take care of patients of all ages and watch, along with patients, as their skin condition improves before our eyes.
