2021 American Heart Run & Walk

Due to COVID-19, the Heart Run & Walk will be a digital event in 2021.  Therefore SDMG would like to do things a little different.  This year SDMG, in honor of the Heart Run & Walk, all team members are invited to take part in 50 Days of Fitness & Health!  From March 25th to May 13th we will be encouraging everyone to get active, eat healthy and donate to the American Heart Association.  We’ll even have a 50th Day Celebration on May 13th!

What does the 50 Days Fitness & Health consist of?

There are 5 major ways that all SDMG team members can participate:

50 Mile Crew: This year represents the 50th Anniversary of the Heart Radiothon (sponsored by Slocum-Dickson).  In celebration of the 50 years, we wanted to challenge our crew to complete 50 miles of running/walking in 50 days.  That’s just an average of 2,000 steps a day!  To accomplish this, crew members can participate in a few ways:

Walking With The Crew: In an effort to foster health and wellness, a walking group will meet 2 days a week to walk together.  Team members who chose this option will walk Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:00PM inside the main hallways at Slocum-Dickson (outside, weather permitting).  Steps from these sessions as well as your daily steps will be recorded.  The goal is to accomplish 50 miles in just 50 days!  Team members are encouraged to share their journey with their friends, family and on social media.  Each team member should sign-up online for the American Heart Association Heart Walk Slocum-Dickson Team.  You can collect donations through this site for the Slocum-Dickson team (minimum raise of $30) or just pay an entrance fee of $30 to join the Crew.

Running/Walking Independently: Crew members who chose this option will run/walk at their own pace and in their own time.  This can be done on a treadmill, inside or outside.  Individual Crew members are invited to share their steps/distance on a weekly basis.  The goal is to accomplish 50 miles in just 50 days!  Individual Crew members are encouraged to share their journey with their friends, family and on social media.  Each Crew member should sign-up online for the American Heart Association Heart Walk Slocum-Dickson Team.  You can collect donations through this site for the Slocum-Dickson team (minimum raise of $30) or just pay an entrance fee of $30 to join the Crew.

Hybrid (Walk With The Crew & Independently) :  For those who want to walk with the group and independently, this is the option for you.  Track your steps and join the Tuesday/Thursday walking group when you have availability.  Members are invited to share their steps/distance on a weekly basis.  The goal is to accomplish 50 miles in just 50 days!  Crew members are encouraged to share their journey with their friends, family and on social media.  Each team member should sign-up online for the American Heart Association Heart Walk Slocum-Dickson Team.  You can collect donations through this site for the Slocum-Dickson team (minimum raise of $30) or just pay an entrance fee of $30 to join the Crew.

Crew members who complete the 50 mile challenge and you raise $30/or pay the $30 fee will earn a special Slocum-Dickson sweatshirt that recognizes your commitment to the 50 Mile Crew!  Also, your total number of steps will be recognized at the May 13th Celebration!

Treadmill Challenge: Previously, SDMG was only allowed to enter 2 challengers into the Treadmill Challenge. This year, SDMG has THREE challengers!!  Dr. Nathan Gould, Dr. Jason Sloane, and Dr. Mohsin Syed all are competing in 2021.  Please show your support bringing your donations to administration or follow social media links to their donation pages.  Each doctor is encouraged to complete 50 miles and to raise $500 for the American Heart Association.  We will be sharing their journey on our social media pages.  Challengers have between March 25th and May 13th to go the distance!

Healthy Recipes & Social Media Check-Ins: We’ll post healthy recipes to the loop and our social media page along with updates and check-ins with all of our Treadmill Challengers and Crew members.  The goal is to inspire everyone to be active and to eat healthy!

May 13th 50 Day Celebration: We’ll be doing a few things on May 13th to celebrate our 50 days of fitness and health.  We will have a healthy food – food truck available on the property for lunch on Thursday, May 13th (more info to come).  At 5:30PM our Treadmill Challengers and 50 Mile Crew invite you and your family members to take one final walk outside (masks and social distancing will apply).  All attendees will receive a goodie bag!  50 Mile Crew members will be acknowledged and the winner of the 2021 Treadmill Challenge will be named.

Raising Money for a Cause: Anyone who joins the SDMG Heart Run/Walk fundraising team that raises $100 or more will receive a SDMG sweatshirt!  You may also donate directly to the SDMG team online to take advantage of this appreciation gift.  To make a donation today – click here
