Polysomnograph Technician I (Full or Part-Time)

Monitors polygraph computer; reports and scores polysomnograms; performs other duties as directed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides clear explanation of hook-up procedure to patients.
  2. Accurately performs, reads and interprets EEG’s and EKG’s.
  3. Documents patient and recording information on computer and technical flow sheet.
  4. Monitors Nasal CPAP therapy and explains mechanical and physiological aspects to patient.
  5. Produces accurate, scorable polysomnograms and maintains PSG equipment.
  6. Relates to patients and personnel in a pleasant, professional manner, must also be able to work unsupervised for extended periods of time. Demonstrates customer service skills.
  7. Attends OSHA upon initial employee orientation and annually thereafter.

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS: Direct relationship with patients/families, physicians and staff.

EDUATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: Applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent and certified in CPR.  Must have at least six (6) months experience as a polysomnograph technician – with one (1) to two (2) years experience in a health profession preferred.  Must hold a New York State license in Polysomnographic or a NYS Respiratory license, Registered EEG, RN or LPN licensed by the New York State Education Department.  Must be capable of working the night shift on a continual basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Classification of work level: Heavy.  Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching.  May require lifting up to 100 pounds using proper body mechanics.  Requires manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax and telephone.  Requires hearing and vision that is adequate to perform job duties.
