JOB SUMMARY:  The Pre-registration specialist reports to the Business Office Supervisor, and directly communicates with patients to verify patient demographics and insurance information. This position conducts insurance eligibility checks and verifies insurance information. Accurately identifies primary and secondary payers. This position works collaboratively with the business office staff and registration staff members to ensure patient wait times are minimized on the day of service and for accurate billing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pre-register patients for upcoming appointments and services.
  • Obtains information to complete Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire and other payer specific documents as required.
  • Certifying patient demographic, insurance, and co-pays collected during scheduling and pre-registration activities. Performs duties in accordance with Slocum Dickson Medical Group values, policies, and procedures.
  • To work within EPIC on registration related work queues, both for pre and post registration. Work queues to be assigned by business office supervisor.
  • To act as liaison between the business office and patient service reps.
  • To communicate to the clinical office’s any insurance changes for upcoming appointments
  • Be involved in PSR training in registration
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.
  • Attends all required in-service programs and employee informational meetings.
  • Complies with established SDMG attendance policy.
  • Provides proper notification for absences and scheduled time-off in accordance with SDMG policy.
  • Complies with SDMG policies and procedures pertaining to Incident Reporting and promptly notifies the supervisor of all incidents.
  • Knowledgeable of individual responsibilities and duties pertaining to SDMG safety/emergency preparedness including emergency codes.
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics to be used in the work setting.
  • May be exposed to hazardous drugs.
  • Attends OSHA training upon initial employee orientation and annually completes an OSHA competency.

 

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS:  Must interact well with providers and clinical staff as well as payer staff and the staff and management in the Business Office.  Must exhibit a high degree of attention to detail.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • And 3+ years’ work experience in Patient Access, Medical Billing, or Customer Service.
  • EPIC knowledge a plus.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience in pre certification requirements and third party billing processing
  • Knowledge of medical business office practices.
  • Excellent customer service skills (preferred).
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks (preferred).
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing (preferred).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Requires sitting, standing bending and reaching.  May require lifting up to 20 pounds.  Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax, calculators and telephone.  Requires normal hearing and vision.

Compensation Range:  $18.00 to $27.00 per hour (minimum to maximum range for this position)
